OUR MISSION

We exist to bring honest, nutritionally rich food to anyone experiencing illness. Our meals are packed with natural goodness to replenish vital nutrients and support recovery, with all of our recipes approved by NHS doctors. We use fresh, seasonal ingredients, sourced locally in Cornwall, and every meal is cooked with love, frozen, and delivered to your door. All our meals are easy to prepare—simply defrost, heat up, and enjoy. Bringing people together over good, wholesome food that nourishes and nurtures.

WE HAVE A HUGE AIM….

  • Help Fund Brain Tumour Research - The largest cancer-killer in under 40’s, and the most under studied.

  • Fund Food-Education - Medical evidence is piling up that diet plays a huge role in cancer prevention. We aim to educate as many young people as we can about how to eat better food and cook better food. Food that does good and that tastes divine.

  • People - Help those who are pre, during, post treatment and need and want to have good food ready to eat in the house.

We are fully transparent, and will publish a breakdown of our expenditure + donations annually on this site so you know where your money is going.

WHO WE ARE?

We are a small team of Freyja Hanstein’s friends and family looking to keep her legacy and research alive. We are founded on two simple principles:

  • The best way to get maximum cash where it needs to go is to have a thriving business, not a charity.

  • Diet and nutrition has become the preserve of the under-qualified. ‘Wellness’ is not the same as rigorous scientific research.

We rely on a small group of doctors, nurses and nutritionists, as well as Brain Tumour specialists, to make sure we ground all our products in science.

WHO WAS FREYJA?

Freyja Hanstein was the most positive, bubbly, clever and kind human most of us ever met.

One month after their wedding, Freyja Hanstein lost her husband to abdominal Synovial Sarcoma. Ten months later, she was diagnosed with a grade 3/4 brain tumour. A plum sized oligodendroglioma cytoma.

Brain surgery on the temporal lobe followed. Until early 2016, she went through post-op treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After the operation, she had to largely re-learn some critical brain function - concentration, language (primarily nouns) and her memory were severely impacted. By 2018/19 she had battled back. She threw herself into research. This included working with Doctors, the NHS more broadly and academic institutions including the University of Plymouth. She went on to release the Wholesome World Recipe App and then the release of the Wholesome World Cookbook.

Unfortunately multiple brain tumours returned, and in late 2023 we lost her. There is not a moment we don’t think about her, and the question “what would Frejya want” guides every decision we take.

We miss you Freffles. We hope we make you proud.

  • "What we love about Wholesome World is how simple the life approach for avoiding or battling cancer can be laid out, with strong insight to Freyja's path through it."

  • "Nutrition is one of the most under-utilised medications of the 21st century, for our physical and mental health"
